Ms Hayler is delighted to present the highlights in the HMS Library for January including some of the latest ‘mood boosting’ and ‘reading well’ books by inspirational authors such as Marcus Rashford, Leah Williamson and Matthew Syed. We also have lots of new fiction and non-fiction arrivals for KS2 and KS3: a mix of genres, styles, dyslexia-friendly and graphics/illustrated books.

HMS athletes braved the cold and snow showers running in the County Cross Country Championships this week. HMS had four runners who finished in qualifying positions to compete in the Inter-County Championships in Middlesbrough. Wilfred P capped a couple of successful days finishing an excellent 5th place (he was racing Year 9 boys!). Wilfred had placed an impressive second place
Year 5 had a brilliant workshop with Deanna Van Der Velde who is the Director of Newcastle Council of Faiths. The children loved finding out all about Judaism including Kosher food, visiting the synagogue and the Torah. The children’s cartoon menorahs were everybody’s favourite! We were delighted to see so many early birds coming in out of the cold and accessing laptops for revision purposes this week. Our first two sessions were well attended and there was a really lovely, positive atmosphere (and lots of breakfast snacks were consumed!) As part of our World Religion Day focus this week, Year 8 enjoyed a workshop with visitors from the Islamic Diversity Centre today.
