Pedestrian Safety Workshop

Year 8 enjoyed a performance from Theatre Space North East this morning focused on road safety. We always enjoy their workshops which deliver important messages as part of our ‘Stay Safe and Well Curriculum’.  It is a timely performance as we have been issuing reminders to pupils in assemblies about road safety following some reports of concerning ‘near miss’ incidents

First Aid Week

This week it is First Aid Week at HMS. This builds on our offer last year. Our programme this year will focus on Unconscious First Aid for our year 5s. Year 6 and 8 are going to engage with some Mental Health First Aid and our year 7s will explore conscious first aid. We welcome First Aid North East again

NHS Virtual Work Experience

At Hexham Middle School, our careers programme focuses on the Health and Life Sciences sector in year 8. Recently we shared a great NHS virtual work experience opportunity as part of National Work Experience Week.  Work experience is a valuable component of a young person’s careers education.  All schools should embed 8 careers-related benchmarks (known as the Gatsby Benchmarks).  Work Experience

International Chocolate Cake Day

Monday 27th January is International Chocolate Cake Day. In form time this week, pupils have had the chance to complete a Chocolate Cake quiz learning more about chocolate with different subject links.   Our catering team are making chocolate cake and brownies for Monday 27th January. We will also have chocolate custard.  Pupils that have both school meals and packed lunches

Peer Mentor Training

Peer Mentor Training  Stacey from ‘Be You- Northumbria Health Care Trust’ came to deliver ‘Peer Mentor’ training to some Year 8 pupils today. The session focused on the key aspects of being a peer mentor including communication. The first task required the peer mentors to complete an A-Z of positive words to describe themselves. Advanced Singing Group

Our brand-new Advanced Singing Group made a great start last week with leader Mr Watson. The 10-strong group is tackling three-part harmony, will look at more advanced vocal techniques and will also help create their own arrangements of some of the songs. Respect. Engage. Aspire.
