Staff and students at Hexham Middle School and Queen Elizabeth High School have been working with Tynedale’s Bicycle Mayor, David Dixon, to launch an exciting new initiative for Hexham’s young people: a ‘Bike Bus’ to enable students to cycle through Hexham to school safely as part of a supervised group. On Friday, HMS hosted a tag rugby event and welcomed Year 3 & 4 pupils from local schools. Our Y8 leaders helped to run different activities at the event, and were incredible role models throughout. Staff from other schools commented on the ‘outstanding’ leaders who showed great communication and organisation, as well as having brilliant interactions with the young ones

This week, a group of pupils represented HMS at Oases’ Climate Action event hosted by the Department for Education’s Youth Sustainability Champions and Durham University. This was a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to help lead the way on developing our trust’s climate action planning. Key organisations that led workshops included the National Education Nature Park and Let’s Go Zero.
