We were delighted to host the Tynedale School Games Sports Hall Athletics on Monday morning.It was a delight to see our pupils engaging so brilliantly in all of the events. The HMS team spirit was on show with pupils supporting their peers in all competitions.Well done everyone – we are proud of you!
To celebrate our Skills Builder approach, Mr Freeman-Myers attended the organisation’s 15-year celebration event in London yesterday. The event was an opportunity to review the ‘Impact Report’ and to celebrate the achievements of the approach to date. It was great to hear that HMS got a shout out on the day! We were delighted to have PiE – Performance in Education – delivering a workshop all about different careers in the NHS. At Hexham Middle School, the Health and Life Sciences are a key employment sector that we engage with as part of our careers education programme. Pupils have learned what the NHS is for and stereotypes about different jobs and roles
Friday 1st December will be a non-uniform day to generate donations for our upcoming PTA pop-up shops! Each class has voted and the HMS Council have decided that the two charities we will fundraise for this year are: Local: Northumberland Wildlife Trust National: St John Ambulance We are delighted that pupil voice was in action and everyone has had their say. We have already raised funds for Children in Need this year and look forward to raising
Newcastle University’s Street Scientists visited Year 8 yesterday for a STEM Day, delivering chemistry workshops. There were lots of exciting demonstrations which helped pupils to learn about the properties of elements of the periodic table. Thank you to Newcastle University for visiting HMS once again. It has been great to see an enthusiastic group of Year 5 pupils taking part in their cycle training course this week. They engaged brilliantly and the instructors have been really impressed with them. Mr Gaines has now confirmed another course in February for those who did not secure a place. Letters are being sent home with the children today.
As a school, we raised £810 for BBC Children in Need last week. This is a fantastic amount and we are so grateful for your support. Thank you everyone!
Year 6 enjoyed an assembly with Phil Maloney from Egger in Hexham as part of their design technology studies and careers education programme. As a significant local employer, Egger is perfectly situated to help build local talent and aspiration in our community. The Year 6 boys took part in the 6 a-side tournament hosted by NUF at Cochrane Park in Newcastle. After winning the first two games comfortably, HMS found themselves narrowly losing the next two but managed to squeeze through to the semi-finals by finishing 2nd in the group on goal difference.
