Newcastle University’s Street Scientists visited Year 8 yesterday for a STEM Day, delivering chemistry workshops. There were lots of exciting demonstrations which helped pupils to learn about the properties of elements of the periodic table. Thank you to Newcastle University for visiting HMS once again. It has been great to see an enthusiastic group of Year 5 pupils taking part in their cycle training course this week. They engaged brilliantly and the instructors have been really impressed with them. Mr Gaines has now confirmed another course in February for those who did not secure a place. Letters are being sent home with the children today.

Year 6 enjoyed an assembly with Phil Maloney from Egger in Hexham as part of their design technology studies and careers education programme. As a significant local employer, Egger is perfectly situated to help build local talent and aspiration in our community. The Year 6 boys took part in the 6 a-side tournament hosted by NUF at Cochrane Park in Newcastle. After winning the first two games comfortably, HMS found themselves narrowly losing the next two but managed to squeeze through to the semi-finals by finishing 2nd in the group on goal difference. We are very sad to report that Neil Morrison, former Federation Headteacher across QEHS and HMS, passed away on Wednesday morning. It was unexpected and has come as a real shock.
