We provide an effective careers programme (insert new link for Careers Road Map) in line with the government’s statutory guidance on careers curriculum, information and advice, which offers can offer pupils with unbiased careers advice, experiences of workplace, and meaningful encounters with employers, higher and further education, and other training providers. We strive to encourage our pupils to aspire, make good choices and understand what they need to do to reach and succeed in possible career paths and wider life. We will support pupils’ readiness for their next phase of education so that they are equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary for this transition. At Hexham Middle School, a key transition point is in year 5 when pupils arrive from feeder primary phase schools. Pupils will come with a range of age-appropriate careers curriculum experiences. Another transition point is in year 7, when pupils enter secondary education. Careers curriculum from Key Stage 3 is taught primarily within the PSHE curriculum. In year 8, we see our pupils graduate and most pupils move up to Queen Elizabeth High School.
