Rugby Update

Last week, two teams represented HMS at the Dame Allan’s 7s rugby tournament. Both of our teams were amazing and worked non-stop on the pitch – no mean feat in 7s which is very tiring!

The boys’ team, who are quite experienced rugby players, had a hard pool with nearly all the other teams being independent schools who play a lot of rugby. They played really well and won two of their games and two others were very close score lines. Some excellent tries scored. Huge well done to the boys. Most of our girls’ team only started rugby this year when the Newcastle Falcon’s coaches delivered lessons in school and they nervously approached their first game. Once the game got underway, they relaxed a little more and found their stride. The girls were beaten in every game but they never gave up. They displayed such a fantastic attitude all day and we scored at least one try in every game. They were exhausted at the end but loved every minute of it and we were SO proud!

The way both teams conducted themselves was a true display of the school ethos – Respect, Engage, Aspire – and was probably the proudest moment I have had as a PE teacher!
