A group of enthusiastic Year 6 pupils had the opportunity to visit the School of Engineering at Newcastle University on Monday as part of their project launch for ‘Make Future Engineers’. A huge thank you to Dr Maryam Haroutunian, lecturer of Marine Technology at Newcastle University, who is leading this project and working closely with Mr Freeman-Myers. This is the first time we have entered and it was great to see our Year 6 team starting to get to grips with coming up with a prototype to develop a floating wind turbine.
Our Year 6 team visited the university workshops and 3D printers. Our team also shared their early design ideas with Dr Haroutunian and got some good feedback. The competition will eventually see us test out our prototype in the water tanks of the Armstrong Building, but for now, we are spending time on Wednesday lunchtimes researching and developing how to make the best design. We are very excited to give our Year 6 team the opportunity to think, talk and work like engineers!
