At Hexham Middle School, our careers programme focuses on the Health and Life Sciences sector in year 8. Recently we shared a great NHS virtual work experience opportunity as part of National Work Experience Week. Work experience is a valuable component of a young person’s careers education. All schools should embed 8 careers-related benchmarks (known as the Gatsby Benchmarks). Work Experience is the 6th benchmark.
One pupil decided to take on the challenge of completing some work experience developing key employability skills such as problem solving (one of our school’s Skills Builder skills), data literacy, storytelling, and presentation. Hosted on Microsoft Teams, the session took place outside of school hours. Well done to Anna M in year 8 for her commitment and aspiration in taking part. We know that she even learned how to create pivot tables in Excel.
