Our KS2 STEM project over the last half term has been designing ‘Moon Landers’. The design brief was to design and build a spacecraft that could withstand the landing impact of a journey to the Moon. We discussed forces such as gravity, and what engineering ideas we could use to counteract impact force, such as shock-absorbers. We even managed to link this to current events, including India’s recent mission to the dark side of the Moon! We had eight teams building ‘Moon Landers’, and we tested them today. We were assessing them for stability, speed of fall, and the safety of their (egg) astronauts. Five out of eight teams had surviving eggs – a triumph!
