Year 7 and 8 Netball
On Thursday night last week the Y7 and Y8 girls were in netball action against Highfield Middle School.
The Y8 girls were raring to go in their encounter and a fierce start to the game saw Lexi G registering the first point of the game with a brilliant shot from the left hand side of the basket. Her partner in attack, Beth R, showed quick thinking throughout the game but a brilliant bit of interplay between the two attackers saw Beth finish brilliantly from a central area! It was a great start to the game. Since arriving at school in September, Phoebe has impressed in a wide range of sports but in the position of centre she was fantastic for the whole game, constantly making bursts forward and winning countless turnovers. A good netball team needs energy and the pairing of Molly B and Sasha F brought just that, seeking the ball in the wide areas and always making the needed recovery runs for their team. Sophia R, making her netball debut, was dominant in the offensive zone making sure she got to all of the loose balls and growing in confidence with her shooting throughout to score a few brilliant points for her team! The defence was a real strong point all game and with Martha C in the defensive zone she was able to win the ball back and launch HMS onto the counter, a brilliant display yet again. Finally, Daisy C – who was asked to play in several positions and roles in the team – did a great job, always wanting the ball and doing the job that was needed for her team! Well done girls: an 18-10 win was a great result against a very strong team!
The Y7 girls were in action against two teams on the night so they really did work hard! Captain on the day Tiana led from the front getting HMS off to the perfect start with a few brilliant early interplays. Her work with sharp-shooting Abby A was brilliant. Abby’s finishing just kept getting better and better as the night went on! Similar to the year 8 team, every netball team needs players who will work constantly to help their team across the court. Ava C and Imogen B did just that! Both girls played brilliantly in whatever position they were asked, showing great in-game intelligence and desire to help their team! The same can be said for Hannah S whose performances in both GK and C were brilliant playing against some very tough opponents! When people talk about defensive displays, they talk about good communication and quick thinking. Iris and Grace displayed that in abundance. Both girls worked in tandem to stop a lot of promising Highfield attacks and to send the ball forward throughout! Player of the matches though was Anya C who never stopped running! Whether in attack or defence she impressed with impressive footwork and handling! She even managed to score a few points for her team to add to a great overall display. Game 1 finished 6-5 to HMS and game 2 finished 9-2: two great wins!

Year 5 and 6 Netball
Last night the Y5 and Y6 girls were in netball action for the first time! In a fantastic night of netball, which saw over 40 girls take part, our girls performed incredibly. Their determination and teamwork shone: we were proud of each and every girl who played last night. We are very excited to see how the girls develop as performers in the years to come!
