Last night saw more sporting action as the Year 7 and 8 boys’ football teams were in action alongside the girls’ netball teams in our first trip to Ovingham Middle School.
The pupils were outstanding and represented the school in a fantastic way.
Year 7 Boys
In national cup action the boys new it would be a tough challenge. An early goal by captain Ollie G saw the boys take on a commanding position from the off. Further goals by Jack T, Louis R, a double from Robin BM, a great solo goal by Archie H and two more from man of the match Ollie saw HMS win 8-3! In the match Finlay W also saved a penalty with the score at 5-3! Well done boys! Highfield await in the next round.
Year 7 Girls
In netball action the Year 7 girls impressed the on watching Miss Hopper. The girls showed real determination and integrity! It was their first ever outing as a team with good interplay from Hannah S, Pia P and Tiana M leading to some good attacks. Anya, Beau and Grace were sturdy in defence. You can also always rely on Iris, Abby, Ava and Imogen to work tirelessly off the ball. Miss Hopper was very impressed with you all and there are signs of exciting games ahead for sure!
Year 8 Boys
The Year 8 boys were also in national cup action and up against a team who we had never beaten at this age, so we knew it was going to be tough. Going into the match (and half the team had run at the cross country championships all day!) the boys knew they needed to dig deep. They did so incredibly well! George L as always lead the charge from the back with a series of impressive blocks early on! His defensive partnership with Callum C is blossoming and the pair combined brilliantly to propel Ovingham attacks. Full backs CJ and Theo, both out of positions, showed incredible guts with relentless defending. After 15 minutes, man of the match Thomas R threaded a beautiful through ball to Magnus who dispatched his third goal in a week for school to make it 1-0. Freddy ‘Kante’ C could do no more as he marshalled the back four, winning the ball back every chance he got. The flair fell down to James MD, Hugo M and Adam W who had to run the ball up the pitch on countless occasions. Late on a clinical finish from William S made it 2-0 to HMS and that is how it stayed thanks to David C in goal with a string of fine saves! Well done boys, onto the next round.
Year 8 Girls
The Year 8 girls came up against very tough and experienced opposition. They pushed their opponents very close thanks to sharp shooting by Beth R and great interplay by captain Phoebe P and Martha C. The defensive tenacity of Poppy and Olive showed their desire to succeed. Sasha and Molly both worked relentlessly off the ball to try and give HMS the advantage. Well done girls: very strong signs to build on next time out!
Huge thank you to Miss Hopper for helping us out yesterday!
