This week at HMS students have begun to learn more about Gypsy, Roma and Traveller culture as part of National GRT History Month. On Tuesday, Mrs Watson delivered the first in a series of assemblies to students exploring the heritage and cultural practices of these diverse and often misunderstood groups.
Students demonstrated a mature interest in the etymology of the terms used to describe GRT culture, and the way in which words such as ‘Gypsy’ are often used pejoratively in certain contexts.
