This week, students in Mrs Roff and Mrs Smith’s English class took part in an exciting workshop on graphic novels.
Richy K. Chandler, an illustrator and graphic novellist, came to HMS to work with the students and help them to develop their storytelling skills. The class looked at some examples of Richy’s own work, then explored how to use lettering, facial expression and body language to create meaning with their characters. They next explored lots of different ideas about how to make plots exciting and unique to create different effects for their readers. With their new skills, students finally created their own convincing characters and their own storyboard.
A second workshop will run on Friday 25th of June, where students will do further work on their storyboards and bring their ideas to life through animation – we can’t wait!
