On Thursday the Year 7 boys were in last 16 action in the football county cup against RGS.
The boys started brightly and created a number of good chances and missed narrowly. The deadlock was broken midway through the first half after Ollie P was fouled on the edge of the area and James S smashed the free kick home into the top left corner. After this Alex M was so unlucky not to score first hitting the post, then the bar, then having two cleared off the line.
After half time RGS used the swirling wind well and grabbed the equaliser. Josh R came inches away from putting HMS back in the lead and if it wasn’t for clearances from Sam, Aidan and then a goal line clearance by debutant Thomas B we would have fallen behind.
When Luke H went on a charging run forward and was fouled, James S stepped up to send a second free kick into the top corner: 2-1 HMS. Another debutant Josh N then went on a winding run and unselfishly squared to Luke F to smash home a third. Final score 3-1 HMS. We now face Highfield in the quarter finals of the county cup. Well done boys!
