A huge night for the Year 7 footballers who have already had a busy year and have already finished runners-up twice in County tournaments.
Game 1:
Game one started with Haydon Bridge the opponent and they started well but two early goals by Taylor Milton either side of a Max Gradwell rocket put us in control. Sam Davison opened up his account for the day with two clever finishes. We then conceded late on. 5-1 final score.
Game 2
Highfield who have frustrated us in weeks gone by were the opponents. A fortunate own goal put us 1-0 up early on before Cameron Hardy made it two with a great strike. Ben Brownless made it 3 from a distance after Highfield got one back. Sam added a fourth but Highfield scored 3 quick goals to equalize. 4-4 final score meaning we needed at least a point to qualify for the final against Ovingham.
Game 3
Ovingham as always proved tough opponents but we really raised our game. Cameron Hardy linked up brilliantly with Max and Sam to put us 2-0 up early. Both keepers performed exceptionally well but captain for the day James Craig was finally beaten and the score went to 2-2. Both teams went back and forth with more goals from Sam and one from Cam. Holding off a late push from the opposition HMS won 5-3. A good advantage heading into the final.
Final
In a fantastic final HMS played in the perfect spirit and desire to win. Another Sam D goal put us 1 up and Ovingham then equalised shortly after. A back and forward encounter made it exciting to watch but as the final whistle blew it ended 1-1.
Penalties…
Sam slotted home first, then Ovingham, Max then coolly scored before James Craig came up with a crucial save to leave Cam Hardy to slot home the winner. 3-1 final score on Penalties.
Hexham Middle School are the County Champions!
Well done to all!!!
