The School Parliament and Council had their Inaugural Meeting during Local Democracy Week. Members of the student body that were democratically elected onto our School Parliament or Cabinet Council got the chance to meet Mr Trevor Cessford (County Councillor for Northumberland County Council).
A big thank you for him approaching the school and offering to talk to our pupils about local democracy in action. Pupils that attended were presented with their badges and learned about Mr Cessford’s pathway into political life, the role of different councils, the nature of the work he does on a daily basis and how elections work.
Parliament meets once every half term in Beaumont Library to discuss the matters that Councillors raise.
Next half term we are talking part in UK Parliament Week. Members of School Parliament and Cabinet Council will get the opportunity to take part in further workshops to develop their confidence in public speaking, decision making and debating.
