This morning, Northumberland Fire and Rescue spoke to Year 8 pupils about water safety. They gave key messages to pupils about the dangers of being near bodies of water. They gave great advice to our pupils to help them explore their thoughts on strategies to save lives, if an unfortunate situation arose in which somebody was in danger. Pupils also learnt more about the specific equipment fire officers have to assist others when in danger in waterbodies.
Many thanks to Charlotte Sayers and her team for attending. We know that young people are programmed physiologically to take risks, but receiving such vital information is an essential part of a young person’s personal development.
We are planning to have Northumberland Fire and Rescue attend our summer fayre next half term, at which there should be demonstrations by fire officers and opportunities for pupils to take part in planned activities.
In addition, we are very pleased that five of our Year 8 pupils have already signed up to be Fire Cadets following a recruitment drive in early May. They now attend Fire Drills on Wednesday evenings from 6-8pm. There are still 2 places available. If pupils are interested, they should send an expression of interest letter to Charlotte Sayers at Charlotte.Sayers@northumberland.gov.uk.
