County Athletics
On Saturday, several HMS pupils were representing Tynedale at the County Athletics Championships at Gateshead Stadium.
This event sees the most successful competitors from Newcastle, North Tyneside, East Northumberland, North Northumberland and Tynedale competing across a range of events. HMS had 20 pupils from Y6, Y7 and Y8 competing on the day.
Our best HMS performances came in the sprint events with Rory A 2nd in Y6 Boys 80m and Harry C 3rd in Y8 Boys 100m. Two impressive performances as the sprint events are always hotly contested. Isla M recorded an impressive sprint double finishing 5th in both the Y8 Girls 100m and 200m. Other notable performances came in the distance races from Billy B who was 4th in the Y8 Boys 1500m, and Emilia S who was 4th in the Y8 Girls 1500m. It was great to see Maisie H and Eliza F both coming 5th in the LJ and HJ respectively.
Newcastle schools won the event on the day and Tynedale came a very impressive third overall. Mr Gaines would like to thank the support of all runners, jumpers and throwers who attended on the day and performed to their best. A special thank you for the great parental support on the day – this makes for an exciting day and loud competition.
