Our Year 7 girls and boys rugby teams had spectacular fixtures last week with some fantastic results for HMS rugby. Mr Barry’s round-up is below:
Year 7 Girls Rugby
The Year 7 girls were in rugby league action on Wednesday in their semi-final against John Spence.
The first half was very closely contested but the breakthrough came as Katie R followed up some brilliant work from Izzy W and Anna L to power home a sensational solo try. John Spence scored an equaliser in equaly impressive fashion showing it was going to be a close game!
Katie R grabbed her second after powering through the defence for a second time after a perfectly timed offload from Imogen. Sarah Beth then showed how vital she is to the team completing 5 tackles in a row to turn the ball over in some incredible defence.
John Spence however leveled again with a great score in the corner: 2-2. That looked to be the score for half time before Erikka gained 20 yards on a turnover ball. This led to Amy scoring try of the day holding off 6 defenders to put the ball over the line.
Half time: 3-2
Into the second half and Katie S led the charge with several powerful runs and huge tackles. This was backed up by Rose with 2 massive tackles saving certain tries. Unfortunately the team couldnt hold out as John Spence then got two quick tries to make the game 4-3 to the opponents.
Isabel turned the ball over with a brilliant tackle on the wing. Elodie then picked the ball up and drove 15 metres to the line to power home an equaliser.
Moment of the match came with 1 minute to go when Olivia reacted first to a brilliant kick to score a perfect kick and chase!
THE GIRLS ARE IN THE FINAL! A 5-4 WIN!
Year 7 Boys Rugby
On Thursday it was the turn of the Year 7 boys in their semi-final action. The professionalism and clinical finishing on display in this game was outstanding. The boys were filled with nerves and excitement before the game but those nerves were quickly put to bed after a brilliant solo effort in the corner was followed by a Will H breakaway interception to put HMS 2 up early on.
Tries from Jack S, Josh W and man of the match Thomas C followed to leave HMS in a commanding position at the break.
The second half started with our opponents scoring a sensational solo effort in the corner. The boys responded to this like professionals picking themselves up to score a series of tries to end the match 11-1 winners!
It’s a final double for HMS Year 7 boys and girls!
