June has been a busy and successful month for our sports teams so far! Below is a summary of our recent fixtures.
Additionally, 24 HMS athletes have been selected to compete at the County Championships at Gateshead Stadium – stay tuned!
Year 7 Girls Rugby (Mr Barry)
The Year 7 rugby girls were brilliant from start to finish and were a credit to school. Whether it was Sarah Beth M and Olivia W’s tough tackling or Anna L and Katie S’s wonder tries every player was phenomenal.
The girls unfortunately lost 12-8 to a very experienced Richard Coates team but the team looks extremely hungry for victories ahead of next season.
Year 6 Cricket (Mr Gaines)
HMS took three teams to Stocksfield Cricket Club to compete in the Tynedale Cricket Tournament. The boys team played against four other schools. We had won all three of our games and went into the last game against our local foe Ovingham! We need not have worried, after a cautious start the batsman started hitting plenty of boundaries and set a competitive total to beat. The HMS boys love their fielding, some great catches and stumpings soon had Ovingham under pressure. The HMS A team ran out as comfortable winners. They now go on to compete in the County Final on 24th June.
HMS B team not to be outdone also played strongly. They also played four games; they won three and lost one. Led well by Louis K as Captain they won their B team competition. Two trophies brought back to HMS.
HMS also had a girls team at the event. The girls improved in every game led well by Lucy M. Estella F and Molly B batted very well scoring most of the HMS boundaries.
This is always a great event. Our HMS pupils played with pride. It was great to see their sportsmanship and passion for the game.
Year 7 Girls Rugby (Mr Barry)
Last week at a rain-soaked HMS the Year 7 girls were victorious against a brilliant Studio West team. The girls fell behind early on but tries from Katie S, Katie R and Olivia W saw HMS regain the lead. Amy S and Erikka R scored the decisive tries to give HMS girls a place in the semi finals! A fantastic game!
This now means both HMS boys and HMS girls are in the Year 7 Newcastle Thunder Plate semi-finals.
