Hexham Middle School did the North East proud at the English Schools’ AA Cross Country Cup Final this weekend, which took place in very cold and damp sub-zero conditions at Woodbridge School in Suffolk.
Each of the nine English regions fielded three teams (or four, in the case of a joint third finish in the regional round) of up to six runners in each age group. The competition included 26 other teams or 150 individual runners – the strongest of whom are already making a name for themselves at national and international level.
From HMS, Wilfred P finished an outstanding 8th place overall (Junior Boys Y7-8), Billy B ran brilliantly to finish in 79th, and Ossie D was fantastic, finishing in 117th.
All of the boys should take enormous pride in their individual results – it was a phenomenal effort!
This has been a brilliant achievement for this group of boys and for our school. HMS has not made the final of this competition for a long time. In fact, talking to ex-head of school Mr Cassidy, the last HMS team to make this team contained a certain Mr D Scott!
Most importantly, it seems everyone also had a great time and hopefully created some great memories. Well done to everyone involved from both schools – we are very proud of you all!
