High Borrans Day 1
The High Borrans team have now been able to send some amazing photographs. The group had a lovely journey to the Lakes and enjoyed a stop at Bowness for lunch and ice creams. They were welcomed by the High Borrans staff and taken straight out for a short hike. The pupils navigated their way around hills surrounding High Borrans practising their map reading.
The group have since enjoyed amazing adventures in canoeing, caving and ghyll scrambling! When we spoke last night, they were heading down to enjoy a session at the campfire and making the most of the good weather!
More updates to follow next week (or when the team get better signal!). All of the pupils are having a wonderful trip!
Day 2
The weather has been delightful today; beautiful blue skies and stunning scenery. Two groups have enjoyed a glorious day out on Ullswater canoeing and cliff jumping! Many a mental battle was fought as brave souls jumped into the chilled depths of the lake. Another group scaled the Kirkstone pass, developing their scrambling skills in preparation for their afternoon ghyll scrambling. Plunge pools, waterfalls and the ice-cold natural “jacuzzi” were highlights of the day.
The final group went deep underground in the Yorkshire Dales, near the Ribblehead viaduct. They demonstrated excellent teamwork skills, helping each other through the caves as well as learning about stalactites and stalagmites.
Day 3 Update
Another fantastic day of adventures has been had by year 8 in High Borrans. Three groups went ghyll scrambling at Sickle Ghyll in the Langdale Valley. The pupils had to support each other on the scramble up the Ghyll and there were opportunities to squeeze through gaps, enjoy spa treatment with the chilly waterfalls and take a plunge in the pools. The groups then took a hike up Stony Cove Pike, where they got fantastic views down the Lakeland fells. Again, there were leadership skills shown and fantastic effort on tired legs.
The final group were caving in the Yorkshire Dales, again at the Ribbleshead viaduct. Mr Scott and Mr Drummond were really impressed with their teamwork, resilience and the leadership demonstrated by a number of individuals in the caves.
The evening finished with a game of HMS does Bongos Bingo! Pupils joined in with the bingo game, sang songs and danced to some classic bangers! Overall, an exhilarating and exciting day. The group are now en route back to Hexham – what a week!!
