Mr Barry’s Sports Round-Up: Y7 Girls Football

Tonight was our first fixture of 2019 and it was the turn of Year 7 girls in the Area 5-a-side.

In a tournament with no substitutes, we knew it would be a challenge.

Game 1 we played against Haydon Bridge. Katherine H set the tone for the game with a terrific tackle taking the ball, the player and knocking me off the bench in the process.  Shortly after this, Emily H played a terrific through ball to Elizabeth VH who was agonisingly close to giving HMS the lead. After withstanding pressure and a few Isabel G saves, Evie D scored a rocket to give HMS what would prove to be the deciding goal. 1-0 win final score.

Game 2 was a game versus Highfield with the winner going into the final. The game started sensationally with Evie slotting home her first of the game after more good work from Emily. In what ended up being a quiet game in defence, Katherine dominated and showed no signs of letting the attacker have a chance. Evie added two more goals to complete her hat-trick either side of Elizabeth hitting the post to make it 3-0 HMS for the final score. Onto the final.

Final game. In the final HMS’s legs looked tired but against a fresh Ovingham team who rotated their players well we played amazing, keeping the score goalless thanks to Isabel’s heroics in goal. Sadly though we didn’t take our chances, eventually losing 4-0 to a very good Ovingham side.

Second place was a great result: well done girls!
